
North Salem’s girls cross country runners before for the start of the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional.
Led by a ninth-place finish by junior Madison Willhoft, North Salem’s girls cross country team (competing as Viking Distance) placed fourth in the Open Invitational 2 category at Saturday’s Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional meet in Boise, Idaho.
In the combined results, North Salem placed 13th out of 41 teams at the meet. Also running for Viking Distance were Abi Swain (26th place), Emma Haburn, Julissa Escobedo, Divinity Rodriguez and Rosemaline Watley.
West Salem senior Ahmed Muhumed, who won his second 6A state championship the week before, placed 13th in the championship category with a time of 15:51.5.
Competing as the West Salem Harriers, the team of West Salem’s Fabian Elizondo Jr., Hunter Schiess, Ben Johnson, Cameron Douglas and Brennen Le Bel placed 18th in the boys 5K run CC Open Invitational 2.
Signing
North Marion senior Lane Stigall has signed a letter of intent to compete in wrestling at Missouri.
A two-time Class 4A state champion, Stigall placed fourth at the 2016 FloNationals earlier this year.
“He’s a great student in the classroom and an even better competitor on the mat,” Missouri coach Brian Smith said.
Stigall will major in biological sciences.
