The Titans have displayed their dominance so far, so when they weren’t playing as well it makes sense that they still made it look automatic.
West Salem High School’s volleyball team swept Lake Oswego 25-7, 25-6, 25-20 Saturday morning in the second round of the OSAA Class 6A state playoffs.
The No. 2 seed Titans (24-2) advance to the first round of the 6A state tournament for the second straight year and next play No. 10 seed Clackamas at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 4 at Hillsboro’s Liberty High School.
West Salem, which placed sixth in the state last season, was dominant in the first two sets against Lake Oswego, but even though they didn’t play as well in the third set, the Titans won handily.
“I think we’re capable of more,” said West Salem senior Ayle Armstrong, who had six aces. “We kind of relax when we play a team that is not quite to our level. I think when we play harder teams we can step up our game even more than that.”
Paige Whipple had 15 kills and nine digs, Kasey Campbell had six kills and 12 digs, Delaney Smith had six kills and three blocks and Mattie Kelly had 27 assists.
