Silverton freshman Paige Alexander and Woodburn senior Reggie Reyes were named the Class 5A state players of the year for soccer.
Alexander, a forward, scored 33 goals and had 10 assists for the state runner-up Foxes. She was the co-player of the year along with La Salle’s Jacqueline Blakeley.

Also for Silverton, senior Hannah Munson and junior Maggie Roth were named second team-all-state.
Reyes, a forward, scored 12 goals for the 5A state champion Bulldogs.
Also for Woodburn, seniors Andy Ellingson, Anthony Santillan and goalkeeper Eddie Cabrera were named to the first team.
Woodburn senior Conner Karsseboom was named second-team all-state and coach Stan Baker was named coach of the year.
Sprague senior Sarah Teubner, South Salem senior Sebastian Ruelas and West Salem senior Stuart Aeschliman have been named to the Class 6A first-team all-state teams.
Named first-team all-state in 4A girls was Cascade junior Emma Woods.
North Marion senior Ismael Carrillo was named first-team Class 4A all-state.
Stayton junior Alex Cramer and sophomore goalkeeper Jose Navarro were named second team, as was North Marion sophomore Edgar Lopez.
OSAA
Crosshill Christian was fined $1,000 at the Dec. 5 OSAA Executive Board meeting.
The Turner school was fined because an individual qualified for the state cross country meet, but did not show up to compete in it because she was playing in a state tournament volleyball match.
Also at the meeting, Oregon School for the Deaf was fined $250 for not submitting or getting approval for a co-operative agreement for its football team with Willamette Valley Christian.
Athletes of the week
McNary senior Sydney Hunter
Sydney Hunter, Jaden Nielsen Skinner, Brenna Kelly and Kyle Greely were honored by the Salem Sports & Breakfast Club as its athletes of the week Dec. 9.
Hunter, a senior forward for McNary’s girls basketball team, had 14 points and nine rebounds in a 55-51 win against Tualatin and 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 44-43 win against Sheldon.
Nielsen Skinner, a sophomore point guard for South Salem’s boys basketball team, scored 25 points in a 65-64 win against South Eugene, including hitting the game winner, and scored 17 in a 66-65 win against Beaverton.
South Salem junior Brenna Kelly
Kelly, a junior on South Salem’s swimming team, won the 200 free and 500 free and swam on two winning relay teams in a win against McKay.
Greeley, a junior guard, scored 33 points in a 56-52 win against Corvallis, 18 in a 73-53 win against South Medford and 19 in a week against Lincoln.
