The annual game for the Mayor’s Trophy features two teams on losing streaks and in desperate need of a win. South Salem (2-2 Greater Valley Conference, 2-3 overall) has suffered consecutive losses to South Medford and McMinnville, falling behind in each game. North Salem (1-4 GVC) hasn’t scored more than two touchdowns in a game since the season opener. The Saxons have won the Mayor’s Trophy the past nine years in a row.
Sprague at Forest Grove, 7 p.m.
This is a game between a Sprague (3-1 GVC, 4-1 overall) team that is No. 2 in the OSAA’s power rankings and a Forest Grove (0-5 GVC) team that is No. 47 out of 48 teams in the OSAA’s power rankings.
West Salem at West Albany, 7 p.m.
On the air: Radio on KYKN 1430 AM and KSHO 920 AM.
This has been a surprisingly strong start for the Bulldogs (3-1 GVC, 4-1 overall) as they are tied for second place in the league with a strong defense that has held opponents to an average of 16.2 points per game, lowest among GVC teams and fifth in Class 6A.
McNary at McMinnville, 7 p.m.

The Celtics (3-2 GVC) can improve their state playoff positioning greatly with a win against the Grizzlies (3-1 GVC, 4-1 overall).
Glencoe at McKay, 7 p.m.
The Royal Scots (1-4) have lost each of their past two games by a touchdown of less, but this game against independent Glencoe (1-4) gives McKay a chance to finish a game strong.
Central at Crescent Valley, 7 p.m.

There’s been debate about whether Crescent Valley (1-2 Mid-Willamette, 3-2 overall) is for real, but there is no doubt that a Central (2-0 MWC, 3-2 overall) team that knocked Dallas out of the ranks of undefeated despite missing four starters with a 21-20 win is for real.
Silverton at Corvallis, 7 p.m.
The Foxes (1-2 MWC, 3-2 overall) ended their losing streak last week with a 48-21 win against Crescent Valley last week, but if they want to make the state playoffs this is a must-win game.
Dallas at South Albany, 7 p.m.

The Dragons (1-1 MWC, 4-1 overall) are coming off a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to Central and if the team is going to make a state playoff push, the team must beat the Rebels (1-1 MWC, 2-3 overall) in a tough road game.
Woodburn at Estacada, 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (2-3 overall) beat Class 4A Crook County 43-18 last week, but Estacada is 4-1 for a reason and will be Woodburn’s best test yet.
Cascade at Newport, 7 p.m.
The Cougars (1-1 OWC, 2-3 overall) suffered a major setback in last week’s 14-12 loss to Stayton, but a Newport team which has scored a total of 20 points this season is one on which they can take out their frustrations.
Yamhill-Carlton at Stayton, 7 p.m.
Superb defensive efforts the past two games – the Eagles have held opponents to 0 and 12 points – has helped Stayton (1-0 OWC, 2-2 overall), but a bigger game awaits with an idle North Marion (2-0 OWC) team Oct. 13.
Taft at Amity, 7 p.m.
The Warriors’ 4-0 start has been impressive, but a fresh Taft (1-1 West Valley, 3-2 overall) team will be its best challenge yet.
Willamina at Horizon Christian, 7 p.m.
This is Horizon Christian’s first game after forfeiting their past two, and they have forfeited their next game to Amity.
Sheridan at Dayton, 7 p.m.
Dayton (3-0 WVL, 5-0 overall) is freshly minted with the No. 1 spot in the OSAA’s power rankings and is coming off a huge 41-14 win against Santiam Christian.
Salem Academy at Gervais, 7 p.m.
The Crusaders (2-1 PacWest, 3-2 overall) are in excellent position to make the state playoffs, but the team is No. 19 in the OSAA’s power rankings and need to move up significantly or will have a tough draw in the postseason.
Colton at Scio, 7 p.m.
Scio (3-0 PWC, 5-0 overall) can clinch the league championship outright with wins against Colton (1-1 PWC, 4-1 overall) and Blanchet on Oct. 14.
Jefferson at Chemawa, 7 p.m.
The Braves (0-2 PWC, 0-3 overall) are looking to score their first points of the season and a 1-4 Jefferson team may be their best chance.
Blanchet Catholic at Warrenton, 7 p.m.
Though this game will be a trek for the Cavaliers (3-2), the team will use this as a warmup before the team plays its most important game of the season against Scio next week.
Cascade Christian at Santiam Christian, 7 p.m.
These frequent opponents are two of the top teams in the state, but they are both coming off losses: Santiam Christian (4-1) a 41-14 loss to Dayton and Cascade Christian a 49-28 loss to Paradise of California.
Central Linn at Kennedy, 7 p.m.
The Trojans (0-1 Tri-River, 4-1 overall) are coming off a game in which they amassed over 300 yards of offense, but only seven points. Look for them to score significantly more against Central Linn.
St. Paul at Santiam, 7 p.m.
The Buckaroos (3-1) are coming off a bye into their Tri-River opener against a surprisingly strong Wolverines (1-0 TRC, 5-0) team that looks like a contender for the league title.
Regis at Oakland, 7 p.m.
There is no question that Regis (3-2) is playing the toughest schedule in the state among Class 2A teams with the No. 2 ranking in the OSAA power rankings, and it doesn’t get any easier against Oakland (5-0).
Falls City at Alsea, 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (2-0 1A Special District 3 West, 3-2 overall) can all-but sew up their half of the conference with a win against the Wolverines (1-1 SD3, 2-2 overall).
Ione at Perrydale, 7 p.m.
Perrydale (2-1 1A Special District 4, 3-2 overall) has a bye week after this game leading up to a more-important game against Sherman
