The track and field speed of Brendan Van Voorhis is translating onto the gridiron.
McNary High School’s senior receiver had the kind of breakout performance people have been hoping he would in Friday’s 46-41 Greater Valley Conference win against McKay.
Van Voorhis caught eight passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
His speed was never in doubt.
Van Voorhis has placed sixth at the Class 6A state track and field meet the past two seasons in the 400 meter dash, won the GVC district championship in the event last season, and was 10th in the state in the 200.
In addition to that, he has places of second, third, third and fifth in the state in the relays.

Noah Whitaker, West Salem football: The junior running back rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s 51-0 win against Forest Grove.
Peter Mason, Central football: The senior receiver caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s 35-28 win against South Albany.
