Daniels’ touchdown late in the fourth quarter, with 55 seconds left on the clock, helped secure the Salem Academy Crusaders 14-10 victory over Blanchet.

Colton Daniels kept an option run to the left side to score a four-yard touchdown with 55 seconds left and propelled Salem Academy to a 14-10 home win against rival Blanchet Catholic Friday night in the PacWest Conference opener.

It is the first win for Salem Academy (2-1 overall, 1-0 PacWest) against Blanchet (1-2 overall, 0-1 PacWest) since 2011.

Neither team could sustain much offense in the first half. The only points came when Daniels hit Skyler Williams with a screen pass and Williams slalomed his way 77 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

But Blanchet opened the second half strong as Denver Bogat scored a 16-yard touchdown run to cap the opening drive and tie the game with 4:03 left in the third quarter.

Brian Coen’s 20-yard field goal put the Cavaliers up 10-7 with 2:33 remaining.
