These are the finalists for the All-Mid-Valley player of the year awards for baseball, softball, tennis, golf and track and field.
The winners will be presented at the June 7 Mid-Valley Sports Awards at the Salem Convention Center.
The finalists in boys golf are West Salem’s Andrew Eyre, McNary’s Brady Sparks and South Salem’s Trevor Lawrence.

Eyre, a sophomore, has continued his pattern of strong finishes to the season by placing second at the Greater Valley Conference district tournament (146) and winning the 6A Special District 2 tournament (70).

Sparks, a senior, has been as consistent on the golf course this season as he was on the football field shooting in the 70s.

Lawrence, a senior, made major strides this season. He shot 153 at the GVC district meet, including winning a playoff, to place fourth in the district.
The girls golf finalists are South Salem junior Ellie Slama, McNary senior Cammie Decker and South Salem sophomore Ashley Zhu.

Slama won the GVC district tournament for the second year in a row and has been dominant all season.

Decker continued her run of steady play by placing second at the GVC district tournament for the third year in a row.

Zhu’s hard work paid off with big improvement this season, and she placed third at the districts.
In girls track and field the finalists are Silverton’s Maddie Fuhrman, West Salem’s Keira McCarrell and Amity’s Lindsay McShane.

Fuhrman, a senior distance runner, won the Mid-Willamette district championships in the 800 and 1,500 meter races and ran the anchor leg on the winning 1,600 relay.

McCarrell, a junior multi-event athlete, won Greater Valley Conference district championships in the 100 hurdles, high jump and javelin and ran the anchor leg on the winning 400 relay.

McShane, a senior thrower, won West Valley League district championships in the discus, javelin and shot put.
For boys track and field the finalists are McKay sophomore Israel Garza, Regis junior Josh Mumey and West Salem junior Ahmed Muhumed.

Garza won Greater Valley Conference district championships in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Mumey placed second in the high jump at the Tri-River Conference district meet and is the No. 1 high jumper in the state through all classifications.

Muhumed won Greater Valley Conference district championships in the 1,500 and 3,000 as well as the 1,600 relay.
Finalists for player of the year in boys tennis are Sprague junior Logan Blair, South Salem sophomore Alex Fedor and Sprague’s boys doubles team of Jonah Lovell and Nate Harder.

Fedor arrived on the high school scene with a bang, placing second in the GVC.

In girls tennis the finalists are McNary sophomore Hannah Childress, West Salem junior Anya Gerismova and the South Salem doubles team of Jillian and Loryn Studer.

In softball, the finalists are West Salem senior shortstop Tayler Gunesch, Silverton sophomore shortstop Maggie Buckholz and Scio shortstop Ashton Phillips.

Gunesch, who has signed to play at Portland State, is hitting .551 with 43 runs scored and 19 RBIs.

Buckholz, who has committed to play at Oregon, is hitting .628 with 22 RBIs, 15 doubles and a .923 slugging percentage.

Phillips, who has committed to play at Oregon State, is hitting .576 with 33 RBIs, nine doubles and a .882 slugging percentage.
The finalists for baseball are South Salem senior Gabe Matthews, West Salem senior Andy Armstrong and Blanchet Catholic senior Harry Witwer-Dukes.

Matthews, a shortstop and pitcher who has signed to play at Oregon, is hitting .413 with a .609 slugging percentage and 14 runs scored.
