Prep notebook: Blanchet's Nate Cantonwine signs to Blue Mountain

Blanchet Catholic senior Nate Cantonwine signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Blue Mountain Community College.

Cantonwine, a 6-foot catcher and outfielder, was honorable mention all-state at catcher as a junior.

He also was a first-team all-state selection at cornerback in football this fall and was second-team all-PacWest Conference in basketball this winter.

Kennedy girls basketball wins first state championship

Signings

Soccer: South Salem graduate and current Chemeketa student Holly Martinez Moorman signed a letter of intent to play at Corban.

Martinez Moorman, a 2014 graduate of South Salem, scored 10 goals and had six assists this season for Chemeketa.

Woodburn senior Diego Ortiz has signed to play at Eastern Oregon.

Ortiz, a defender, scored five goals and had four assists as a senior. He was a first-team all-Mid-Willamette Conference and second-team Class 5A all-state player.

Baseball: North Salem senior Noah Boatwright has signed to play at Chemeketa.

Boatwright, a 5-foot-11 infielder, was a first-team all-Greater Valley Conference player as a junior.

Soccer: North Marion seniors Ramon Medrano and Alexis Gomez signed letter of intent to play at Chemeketa.

Medrano, a midfielder and forward, was an honorable mention all-Oregon West Conference player as a junior.

Gomez, a midfielder and forward, was an honorable mention all-league selection as a senior.

Dayton beats rival Amity for 3A state championship

Basketball

Dayton junior Zach Bernards was a unanimous first-team all-3A state tournament selection.

Amity senior Lance Nelson and Dayton senior Jarred Ashley were second-team all-tournament picks.

In the girls, Dayton sophomore Shawnie Spink was a unanimous first-team all-tournament selection and Amity senior Madelynn Krotzer, Dayton sophomore Kalina Rojas and Salem Academy sophomore Aimee Smith were also first-team.

Salem Academy sophomore Sydney Brown and Dayton senior Teddi Hop were second-team all-tournament.

Fan voting opens soon for Mid-Valley Sports Awards

In the 2A boys tournament, Regis junior Bryce Piete was a unanimous first-team all-tournament selection and Regis senior Sam Nieslanik also was first team.

Western Mennonite senior Colby Williams was second team.

In the 2A girls, Kennedy senior Kenzie Ratliff was a unanimous first-team selection and Western Mennonite junior Maddie Hull also was first team.

Kennedy senior Lakin Susee and Western Mennonite senior Maddie Hopper were second team.
