North Salem High seniors Cole Hamilton and Cameron Jolly signed letters of intent to play baseball in college.

Hamilton, a catcher, signed a letter of intent to play at Western Oregon.

He was a second-team all-Greater Valley Conference player as a junior and was first-team all-Central Valley Conference as a sophomore after batting .352 with a .562 slugging percentage.

Jolly has signed to play at Linn-Benton.

A right-handed pitcher, he was a second-team all-Greater Valley Conference pitcher as a junior.

Signings

North Marion graduate Kylie Gonzales signed a letter of intent to play softball at University of Great Falls.

Gonzales, who will be a junior in eligibility, batted .380 with 51 RBIS and 11 home runs as a sophomore at Clackamas in 2015.

Athletes of the week

The Salem Sports & Breakfast Club honored eight basketball players as athletes of the week at its Feb. 12 meeting.

McKay senior wing Darrell Woods scored 32 points, had 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in a loss to McMinnville. For the season he is averaging 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

McNary junior wing Matthew Ismay scored 13 points in a loss to South Salem. He is averaging 10 points and six rebounds per game.

McNary senior Reina Strand averaged 14.5 points and nine rebounds in the past four games and is averaging 8.7 points and seven rebounds per game for the season.

North Salem senior Isaac Astorga leads the team with averages of 10 points and five rebounds per game.

South Salem senior post Gabe Matthews, who has started more than 100 varsity basketball games, had 12 points, including the winning free throws with 2.2 seconds left, in a win against McNary and 11 points, four rebounds and two assists against Sprague.

Sprague sophomore Tegan Quitoriano scored 36 points in a win against West Albany, 21 points and had nine rebounds against McKay. He is averaging 22 points and nine rebounds.

Sprague senior Katelyn Macaitis-Smith returned to basketball after a year off. She has a 3.8 grade-point average.

West Salem sophomore Kyle Greeley has come off the bench to score 19 points against Sprague, 17 against Forest Grove and 21 against McNary.
